TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A motorcyclist died after a collision with a pickup truck at South Cardinal Avenue and West Valencia Road early Sunday morning.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 2:41 a.m., a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound on Valencia Road struck a 2023 Ford F-150 pickup truck making a left turn from eastbound lanes. The motorcycle’s driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver, identified as 34-year-old Alejandro Daniel Ruiz Leon, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The female passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses reported that Leon was not wearing a helmet, while the passenger was.
The driver and passenger from the pickup truck were evaluated at the scene and declined further medical attention. Preliminary reports suggest that speed and impairment may have been contributing factors in the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
