TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A motorcycle crash on Sunday evening in Tulsa resulted in one fatality and left two others in critical condition.
The incident occurred on the 21st Street Bridge around 6:30 p.m., according to Tulsa Police. An adult male riding a motorcycle was reportedly traveling at extreme speeds when he lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.
The male rider collided head-on with another motorcycle occupied by a husband and wife. Police confirmed the rider was killed instantly, while the couple was hospitalized and remains in critical condition, with the husband facing life-threatening injuries.
The crash prompted a response from Tulsa Emergency Medical Services and local law enforcement. No further details concerning lane closures or tows were immediately available.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. They noted that most motorcycle accidents often occur when riders who know each other are on the road—making this collision especially unusual.
This incident coincides with the city’s observance of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, a campaign initiated by City Councilor Crista Patrick. She has stressed the importance of safety measures, including the installation of “Watch Out For Motorcycles” signs throughout Tulsa.
Statistics from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office show that many fatal motorcycle incidents involve one vehicle, with unsafe speed being a leading factor. Additionally, 79% of fatalities in motorcycle accidents in Oklahoma involved individuals not wearing helmets.
