BATES COUNTY, Mo. — Twelve people are confirmed dead following a plane crash near Butler Memorial Airport at approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the aircraft, a Pacific Aerospace P750, was performing skydiving operations when it went down, becoming engulfed in flames. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, where eyewitnesses reported seeing the crash.
Authorities stated that Business 49 near the airport is closed in both directions for an extended period. The Butler Police Department and Bates County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with emergency response efforts.
Sheriff Chad Anderson confirmed that family members witnessed the incident from the ground. He indicated that road closures might last at least two days, and the airport has also ceased air traffic.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has verified the aircraft’s details, stating it is a single-engine turboprop, capable of carrying up to 17 skydivers. The plane, manufactured in 2010, is typically used for skydiving, cargo, aerial surveying, and medical transport.
The incident will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Further updates on the situation will follow as more information becomes available.
