Two Dead in Early-Morning Crash on I-80 in Totowa, NJ

Totowa, NJ – A serious collision early this morning on Interstate 80 resulted in at least two fatalities. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes near mile marker 54.2.

Emergency services, including the NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE, responded shortly before 2:15 a.m. to reports of a two-vehicle accident involving multiple injuries. Rescuers utilized specialized tools to extract trapped occupants from one of the vehicles, which included a young child.

Despite immediate medical assistance, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The NEW JERSEY REGIONAL MEDICAL EXAMINER’S OFFICE has been notified, but identities have not yet been released.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the possibility that one vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction prior to the collision. Evidence and scene conditions are currently under review.

Portions of I-80 were closed as crews worked to clear the wreckage and document the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
