A head-on collision on U.S. Highway 50 in Pettis County claimed two lives Tuesday night.
The crash occurred west of Monsees Road around 11:42 p.m. when a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 58-year-old man from Smithton, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2021 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 45-year-old woman from Green Ridge, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that both individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were declared total losses.
The highway was temporarily closed for investigation and clean-up efforts. Further details about the incident are pending as the investigation remains ongoing.
