Two Killed in Crash Involving Police Cruiser and Taxi in Anchorage
ANCHORAGE, AK — A crash involving a police cruiser and a taxi at the intersection of 36th Avenue and A Street resulted in two fatalities on [date, if known].
The victims were identified as 68-year-old Cemal Sadiku, the taxi driver, and 45-year-old William Phillips, a passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Debris from the vehicles was scattered across the intersection, which also sustained damage to a nearby utility pole. The officer involved was responding to a shots-fired call with emergency lights activated at the time of the incident.
Three other passengers from the taxi and the officer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case stated that the investigation will take time. “These investigations are complex… We’re just in the very, very early stages,” he said.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision and whether the siren was also activated at the time of the crash. Findings related to any potential criminal violations will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office once the investigation concludes.
Community members have expressed their condolences for the families affected by the tragedy.
