DETROIT – Two people were injured during a crash on eastbound I-94 in Detroit early Monday morning, police said.
The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. near Barrett, according to Michigan State Police. A Ford Flex lost control, struck the center median, and collided with the right side concrete wall, blocking the right and center lanes.
A Ford Fusion subsequently collided with the stationary Flex. The driver of the Flex, a 33-year-old man, was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The Fusion driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
Authorities closed the area for investigation. Police are pursuing a search warrant for a blood draw on the 33-year-old driver of the Flex.
MICHIGAN STATE POLICE Lt. Mike Shaw emphasized the ongoing issue of impaired driving, stating, “We continue seeing drivers make poor decisions and get behind the wheel impaired. Driving impaired is irresponsible and puts so many people in danger.”
