Two motorcyclists died and one was injured in separate crashes in Wyoming last week, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
First Crash in Big Horn County
A crash occurred at 12:05 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at milepost 46.5 on U.S. 16, east of Ten Sleep. Dawn Johancsik, 51, from Utah, was thrown from her motorcycle when it lost traction while navigating a curve. She was wearing a helmet but succumbed to her injuries. The driver sustained injuries, the extent of which has not been disclosed.
Second Crash Near Evanston
The second incident took place at 4:47 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at milepost 2.4 on the Interstate 80 Service Road near Evanston. Zachary Worthing, 21, of Wyoming, was riding east at a high speed when he crashed after leaving the roadway. He was also wearing a helmet and died from his injuries. Speed is considered a contributing factor in both crashes.
Johancsik and Worthing are the fifth and sixth motorcyclists to die in Wyoming this year, contributing to a total of 35 fatalities on the state’s highways in 2023.
