Double Fatality on US 41 Involves Motorcycles and SUV in Osceola Township
OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP — A man and woman from South Carolina died following a collision involving their motorcycles and an SUV on US 41 Wednesday.
According to Michigan State Police (MSP), the accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. near Golf Course Road. A southbound SUV, driven by a 45-year-old woman, swerved into the northbound lane after failing to notice a stopped pickup turning left. The SUV struck two northbound motorcycles, fatally injuring the 65-year-old man and 36-year-old woman, both from South Carolina. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver and two child passengers were evaluated by first responders and released without serious injuries.
MSP is continuing its investigation, with all findings being forwarded to the Houghton County Prosecutor’s Office for review, as confirmed by MSP Seventh District Public Information Officer Ashley Miller.
Emergency response included MERCY EMS, Calumet Township Fire and Rescue, and Houghton County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Both lanes of US 41 were temporarily closed, with traffic rerouted through nearby roads.
This incident marks the second motorcycle-related fatality locally within a week; a 72-year-old man from Wisconsin died in a separate accident on Friday in Grant Township, Keweenaw County.
