Two killed in I-80 crash as smoke billows from Wyoming tunnels.

A multi-vehicle crash on I-80 in Green River resulted in two fatalities and significant traffic disruption on February 14, 2025.

The collision occurred in the westbound tunnel, involving several semis and passenger vehicles, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews confirmed the fatalities happened outside the tunnel. Multiple explosions from burning vehicles were reported at the scene.

Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County is managing a “mass casualty” incident, providing immediate care to the injured. The hospital advised the community to avoid non-emergency visits.

The crash has caused a full closure of I-80, with traffic diverted at exits 91 and 89, blocking semi-truck access to the Utah-Wyoming border. The roadway remains closed for over 100 miles east of Rock Springs.

Authorities have not provided additional details about the victims or the crash circumstances. There is currently no estimated time for the interstate’s reopening.
