Two killed in motorcycle crash in Labette County on Wednesday.

ALTAMONT, Kan. (WIBW) – Two individuals died in a motorcycle crash on US-59 in Labette County on Wednesday at 3:10 p.m.

The collision occurred approximately two miles northeast of Altamont, near the US-59 and US-160 junction, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

A 1999 Harley-Davidson XL883 motorcycle was reportedly heading north when it crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck.

Authorities said the Jeep attempted to evade the motorcycle but the vehicles collided head-on.

Both individuals on the motorcycle were ejected; they were pronounced dead at the scene. The rider was identified as 38-year-old Ryan J. Myers of Altamont, while the passenger was 30-year-old Samantha A. Cahow of Parsons. Neither was wearing a helmet or eye protection.

The driver of the Jeep, 55-year-old Shaun T. Powell of Fort Scott, sustained suspected minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. His passenger, 27-year-old Lucas A. Kelley, was unharmed. Both Jeep occupants were wearing seat belts.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and officials are investigating the accident.
