KINGS COUNTY, Calif. — Two separate vehicle crashes last week resulted in the deaths of three local educators in Kings County.
Authorities reported that Despina Gamble, 53, died in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 41 near Nevada Avenue at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Monday. Witnesses indicated that Gamble managed to escape her vehicle before it submerged in a canal. Injuries were confirmed, with drowning cited as the cause of death by Officer Hector Carias of the California Highway Patrol.
On Friday, Kenny Conley, 65, and his wife, Leslie Conley, 65, were involved in a motorcycle accident. The couple was struck by a pickup truck while riding on a highway. Investigators believe the truck, a Ram, was attempting to pass a semi-truck when it collided with the motorcycle.
Both Gamble and Leslie Conley were educators at Mark Twain Elementary School in Corcoran. Gamble had dedicated over 13 years to the school, while Leslie Conley served nearly 38 years, transitioning from classroom teaching to specialized reading and writing instruction.
Family members reported that the Conleys leave behind three children and five grandchildren. A GoFundMe page has been established for Despina Gamble’s final expenses; no fundraisers have been reported for the Conley family at this time.
