Vero Beach police investigate fatal motorcycle crash involving high speed

VERO BEACH, Fla. —

A motorcycle crash on July 17 resulted in the death of a 25-year-old rider, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.

Police responded to the scene at Eighth Avenue and 21st Street after a report of a deceased individual in a grassy median. Investigators identified the victim as the operator of a 2008 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle, who lost control and struck a utility pole.

Traffic camera footage shows the motorcycle traveling through Vero Beach shortly before the incident. The rider entered the city around 12:30 a.m. and was recorded speeding along U.S. 1.

According to the department’s Traffic Division, video analysis indicated the motorcycle was traveling at 113 mph as it passed the intersection of 15th Place and U.S. 1, approximately half a mile from the crash site.

Authorities confirmed that speed was the sole contributing factor in the accident.
