MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WKYT) – A fatal crash involving a semi-truck claimed one life on Saturday at Lake Cumberland Road.
Kentucky State Police identified the victim as 70-year-old Hollis Smith of Somerset, who crossed the center line and collided with the truck.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner. Authorities stated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mount Vernon Fire Department reported that the crash occurred at the intersection of Doc Adams Road and Lake Cumberland Road, resulting in closures.
Lake Cumberland Road was shut down between White Rock Road and Dysart Way, with both directions blocked for motorists. Authorities advised using alternative routes until further notice.
The road’s reopening time is currently undetermined.
