Victims of fatal truck-mine bus collision have been identified.

Two people died in a head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer and a bus carrying mine workers early Saturday morning on Nevada 766, north of Carlin.

The crash occurred around 6:35 a.m., according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP). The tractor-trailer, traveling south, crossed the center line and struck the Coach USA bus, which was carrying 20 employees from Nevada Gold Mines.

Both fatalities were confirmed as Andrew G. Nash, 29, of Spring Creek, the truck driver, and bus passenger Rocky D. Witt, 62, also of Spring Creek. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

More than 12 people on the bus were injured, with five in critical condition. One individual was transported to a hospital in Reno, while the others received treatment locally.

Emergency services, including local authorities and the Nevada Gold Mines Emergency Response team, responded promptly to the scene. Nevada 766 was closed to all traffic as the investigation commenced.

The collision highlights the bus transportation of miners to regional gold mines, which operate in shifts across multiple locations, including those managed by Nevada Gold Mines, a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corp. and Newmont Goldcorp Corp.

The NHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
