Virginia bus driver involved in fatal crash had a history of speeding violations.

A bus driver involved in a fatal crash in Virginia has been indicted on additional charges, including three counts of involuntary manslaughter, authorities said.

Jing Sheng Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, was initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter following the accident on Interstate 95 early Friday. The crash resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries, according to the Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Dong was reportedly driving a motorcoach from New York to North Carolina when he collided with several vehicles in a work zone. The victims included a family of four from Greenfield, Massachusetts, and a 25-year-old woman from Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dong, who is still hospitalized, has a history of speeding violations, including a recent charge for driving 72 mph in a 50 mph zone in Annapolis, Maryland. In Virginia, he was previously convicted for driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The bus involved in the crash was operated by E&P Travel Inc., based in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation.

Court filings do not list an attorney representing Dong in the bus crash case. Prosecutor Eric Olsen stated that Dong will be transferred to jail once he is discharged from the hospital.
