WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —
A motorcyclist died Tuesday afternoon after a collision with a school bus in West Des Moines.
According to West Des Moines Police, the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 300 block of EP True Parkway. The motorcyclist, identified as 51-year-old Brian Franklin, was treated on scene and transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities reported that one of the six individuals on the West Des Moines Community Schools bus suffered injuries. The condition of that individual has not been disclosed.
The crash is under investigation by local law enforcement.
As of now, Iowa Department of Transportation data indicates 79 fatalities on Iowa roads this year, a rise of 12 compared to the same period in 2022. Six of those deaths involve motorcycle incidents. The five-year average for annual fatalities statewide is 337.
