One motorcyclist died and another was hospitalized following a four-motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Worth County, east of Sheridan.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Highway 46 near the junction of Route F, about 3 miles east of Sheridan. A 65-year-old Bedford man was turning left from Highway 46 onto Route F when a 44-year-old Winterset motorcyclist failed to notice his slowing motorcycle. The Winterset operator swerved left in an attempt to avoid a collision but struck the Bedford motorcyclist.
The impact caused the Winterset motorcyclist to be ejected from his bike. A third motorcycle, operated by a 47-year-old Bedford man, struck the Winterset motorcycle, also causing the Bedford driver to be thrown from his bike. A fourth motorcyclist, a 44-year-old from Patterson, Iowa, attempted to avoid the scene but ran over the ejected Winterset driver.
The Winterset motorcyclist died from his injuries, while the 47-year-old Bedford operator sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Mosaic Life Care in Maryville. No injuries were reported for the other two motorcyclists.
Authorities reported multiple agencies responded, including the Worth County Fire Department, Worth County EMS, Sheridan Fire Department, and Grant City Fire Department, to assist with the investigation.
