30-Year-Old Pahoa Man Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash.

HAWAII ISLAND, Hawaii — A motorcycle collision on Kahakai Boulevard resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man on Wednesday, June 3, shortly before 5:30 p.m.

According to Hawaii Island Police, the incident occurred when the motorcycle, traveling west, was struck by a vehicle making a left turn from the eastbound lane onto Niuhi Street. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was found unresponsive at the scene, later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old male, sustained no injuries and was subsequently arrested. Charges include Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, First-Degree Negligent Homicide, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended or Revoked License, and No Motor Vehicle Insurance.

Authorities reported that speed, alcohol and/or drugs, and inattention are suspected contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.

This incident marks the 14th traffic fatality on Hawaii Island for 2026, compared to 13 fatalities at the same point in 2025.
