64-Year-Old White Plains Man Dies After SUV Runs Red Light and Flees, Police Launch Investigation.

UPDATE 4/4/2026: A 64-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash involving a hit-and-run SUV on Maryland Route 228 in Waldorf on April 3, 2026, at approximately 7:49 p.m.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at the intersection of Berry Road and Bunker Hill Road. A 2008 Infiniti G35, occupied by several individuals, reportedly ran a red light and collided with a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Scott Beland of White Plains, MD.

The collision caused Beland to sustain severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses identified the Infiniti as failing to stop for the red signal before entering the intersection and fleeing the scene post-collision.

Maryland State Police and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The Maryland State Police CRASH Team is leading the investigation.

The Infiniti’s occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot after the crash. Police continue to search for suspects and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Sergeant J. Zimmerman at the MSP CRASH Team at (301) 392-1231 or email [email protected].

The roadway was closed for several hours, causing extended delays. The investigation remains ongoing and will be referred to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
