71-Year-Old Motorcyclist Identified Following Fatal Crash on National Trails Highway in Oro Grande.

ORO GRANDE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A head-on collision on National Trails Highway claimed the life of a 71-year-old motorcyclist on February 7, 2026.

The crash occurred around 6:24 p.m. near Wilderness Court. The incident involved a black motorcycle and a white Mazda 3 sedan, according to the Victorville Police Department.

Authorities reported that George Butterfield, a resident of Helendale, was riding northbound when he lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with the southbound Mazda.

Butterfield was transported by ambulance but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The Mazda driver was also hospitalized; however, their condition remains undisclosed.

The Major Accident Investigation Team from the Victorville Police Department is investigating the incident. Both directions of National Trails Highway were closed for approximately three hours as authorities processed the scene.
