GRIMES, Iowa —
A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash with another vehicle Tuesday evening near the Dallas County line, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the collision at approximately 5 p.m. at the intersection of West 1st Street and Jazzwood Avenue, known as X Avenue in Dallas County.
Initial reports indicate the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on West 1st Street while the other vehicle was westbound at the time of the collision. The adult male motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is in critical condition; the occupant of the vehicle was not injured.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash to determine its cause. As a result, West 1st Street (Highway 44) is closed between Southwest County Line Road and W Avenue. Authorities anticipate the closure will last for several hours and advise motorists to avoid the area.
