Army Sergeant Dies After Motorcycle Crash on I-8 Near Gila Bend
GILA BEND, AZ — Army Sgt. Jake Sheldon died after being struck by a vehicle while on his motorcycle on Interstate 8, according to his family. The incident occurred at 5:59 a.m. on June 10, 2023, near milepost 95.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), Sheldon was riding eastbound when a passenger vehicle collided with him. The driver has been cited for failure to control the vehicle, stating the sun hindered visibility. Investigators confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the crash.
Sheldon was reportedly wearing a helmet and full protective gear at the time of the accident. His family is seeking additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision and urges witnesses to step forward.
“We would love to connect with anyone who has dashcam footage or saw anything,” said Greg Sheldon, Jake’s uncle. The family is also advocating for a more in-depth investigation into the driver’s actions at the time of the incident.
A fundraiser has been established to assist with transportation costs incurred by the family during this difficult time.
