HAWAII ISLAND (Local News Wire) – A judge in Hilo District Court reduced bail for Kade Smith, 36, charged in a fatal motorcycle crash on June 3.
Smith faces five charges, including manslaughter and first-degree negligent homicide, after a collision on Kahakai Boulevard. According to authorities, Smith was turning left onto Niuhi Street when his vehicle struck a motorcycle operated by 30-year-old Korey Palmerton.
Palmerton was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities allege Smith was under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license at the time of the incident.
Initially set at $553,050, Smith’s bail was lowered to $350,000 during his court appearance on Monday. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 10.
The charges against Smith are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
