Motorcyclist critically injured in high-speed chase and crash in Northwest Indiana.

Hammond Man Injured After Motorcycle Chase and Crash on I-80

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – A 21-year-old Hammond man sustained serious injuries following a police chase on I-80 eastbound that ended in a crash on Friday evening.

According to Indiana State Police, the incident began around 6 p.m. when a trooper clocked a motorcycle traveling at 95 mph in a 55 mph construction zone. The motorcycle, driven by Agustin Flores, allegedly accelerated to over 130 mph during the attempted traffic stop, weaving in and out of lanes.

Due to heavy traffic, the trooper discontinued the pursuit shortly after initiating it. A few minutes later, police received multiple 911 calls reporting a motorcycle accident a few miles from the initial stop.

The responding trooper located Flores at the crash site, where he was found severely injured. He was transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital before being transferred out of state for additional treatment. Witnesses stated they observed Flores speeding before colliding with a white Ford F-150, which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver of the F-150, 43-year-old Adalberto Velasco from Elkhart, was unharmed but was arrested for driving without a license. Authorities confirmed that Flores faces charges including resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.

The investigation remains ongoing.
