CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A motorcycle crash involving a dump truck resulted in one fatality on Campbell Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred around 2:41 p.m., approximately one mile north of Suburban Road. A 27-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Spensir Wood of Rustburg, was traveling northbound at an excessive rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle.
Authorities reported that the motorcycle fell on its side and struck a stationary dump truck in the median crossover. Wood succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The motorcycle ignited following the collision; however, the Rustburg Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Police stated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing. No further details about road closures or additional injuries were provided.
