Motorcyclist Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Center Street Overpass in Vineyard
VINEYARD, Utah, April 19, 2022 — A 24-year-old motorcyclist died Monday night after crashing on the Center Street railroad overpass.
Tristian John Schultz was traveling east on Center Street when he struck a side barrier around 7:20 p.m., according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. The impact caused Schultz to skid at least 120 feet before he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Speed was confirmed as a contributing factor in the crash, and Schultz was not wearing a helmet, authorities said. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist pass other vehicles at a high rate of speed before the incident occurred.
The raised section of Center Street features a railroad overpass where the crash took place. The area has a posted speed limit of 25 mph.
The overpass was closed for approximately four hours as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has expressed condolences to Schultz’s family and friends.
