Asheville Woman Dies Days After Cleburne County Motorcycle Crash Injuries.

A motorcycle crash in Cleburne County on March 1 has resulted in the death of an Ashville woman.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Rachel M. Smith, 34, was a passenger on a 2024 BMW S1000 RR motorcycle. The incident occurred just before 3:00 p.m. on Alabama 281, near the 242 mile marker, approximately eight miles north of Oxford.

The motorcycle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Both Smith and the motorcycle’s driver were ejected from the bike and transported by air to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for critical injuries.

Smith was pronounced dead on March 12, while undergoing treatment at the hospital, according to ALEA.

The investigation is ongoing by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, with no additional information released at this time.
