AISD Police Chief Injured in Motorcycle Crash During Graduation Escort
AUSTIN, Texas — AISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed was injured Wednesday night in a motorcycle crash while escorting Superintendent Matias Segura from a graduation ceremony.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. near West U.S. 290 westbound and the MoPac service road ramp, according to the Austin Police Department (APD). Sneed was struck by another AISD PD officer on a motorcycle while Segura was traveling in a vehicle.
Emergency personnel provided medical aid at the scene, and Sneed was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening but serious injuries. APD officers managed scene security and traffic control.
Details regarding the identification of the other AISD officer involved have not been disclosed.
Sneed has served as AISD’s police chief since August 2022 and has been with the district for over a decade. He also teaches law enforcement at Texas State University in San Marcos.
AISD issued a statement expressing hope for Sneed’s recovery and gratitude to first responders. No further information is available as the investigation continues.
