BOURNE, MA — Several people were injured, including one with life-threatening injuries, in a multi-vehicle crash on Scenic Highway Sunday morning.
According to authorities, Bourne Police and Fire Departments were dispatched at approximately 6:45 a.m. to a report of a collision near the Herring Run Rest Area.
Upon arrival, officers found a white 2026 GMC Terrain and a tan 2016 Jeep Wrangler involved in the crash at the intersection of Scenic Highway (Route 6) and Herring Pond Road. The GMC Terrain was driven by Timothy Malone, 41, of Providence, RI, while the Jeep Wrangler was operated by Paul Hunnebeck, 61, from Kingston, NY.
Initial investigations indicate the GMC was traveling east on Scenic Highway, failing to stop for a red light. It struck the Jeep, which was turning left into the Herring Run Rest Area. The impact caused the Jeep to roll over before landing upright.
Malone sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by Medflight to a trauma hospital. Witnesses reported that officers applied a tourniquet to control severe bleeding from his right arm. A 44-year-old male passenger in the GMC was taken by ambulance to another trauma center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Hunnebeck was taken to a different hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by law enforcement.
