WOODSTOCK, Conn. (WGGB/WSHM) – Two motorcyclists from western Massachusetts were seriously injured in a crash involving a car on Route 171 on Sunday night.
According to CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE, multiple riders from the Chicopee Moose Lodge were struck when a vehicle crossed the double yellow line at high speed. The incident left two individuals hospitalized with serious injuries.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle hit several bikers around 7:00 p.m. The driver’s identity has not yet been released, and authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Ken Fish, a member of the Chicopee Moose Lodge Riders, said he was supposed to join the ride but opted to spend time with his daughter instead. “I was supposed to go on that ride,” he told Western Mass News.
Joshua Morin, a survivor of a 2019 motorcycle crash that killed seven in New Hampshire, expressed his heartbreak over the recent incident. He emphasized the need for heightened driver awareness, stating, “Pay attention to the road, pay attention to your driving.”
Morin highlighted that motorcycle groups often discuss safety during rides, which typically include safety briefings. “One slight mishap can kill somebody on a motorcycle,” he added.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles. The lane was closed for several hours as investigators gathered evidence and statements.
The accident is under investigation, with further details expected from authorities as the investigation progresses.
