Coroner and troopers investigate fatal crash on Highway 29 in Spartanburg County.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A crash involving a motorcycle and a car in Spartanburg County killed a county employee on Wednesday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of US-29 and Fairforest Clevedale Rd at approximately 5:59 a.m.

The crash involved a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle and a 2021 Volkswagen sedan. The motorcyclist, 28-year-old Erik N. Estrada of Spartanburg, was traveling southbound on US-29 when he struck the passenger side of the Volkswagen, which was turning left onto Fairforest Clevedale Rd.

Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office. He had been employed by the county’s Solid Waste Department since April 2025.

Spartanburg County officials expressed their sorrow over the loss, stating, “This is a heartbreaking loss for our County team, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and coworkers.” They offered counseling and support resources for staff affected by the tragedy.

The roadway was temporarily closed for investigation and vehicle removal. Authorities are ongoing efforts to determine the cause of the crash.
