SALUDA, S.C. (WIS) – A 61-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on U.S. 378 Wednesday night.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Mark Whorton of Monetta was traveling west on Columbia Highway near Roseland Drive at 10:10 p.m. when he struck a deer. This caused him to fall into the roadway, where an unknown vehicle subsequently hit him.
The vehicle that struck Whorton fled the scene, authorities said. Whorton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Saluda County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
The Saluda County Coroner’s Office has expressed condolences to Whorton’s family during this difficult time.
