DEADWOOD, S.D. (KOTA) – Two Colorado residents were killed in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 14A east of Deadwood on Aug. 6.
The incident occurred around 6:27 p.m. near mile marker 47, when a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, ridden by 59-year-old Shawn Lee Rector and 54-year-old Susan Renee Rector, crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, neither motorcyclist was wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
A 67-year-old male passenger in the Jeep sustained minor injuries. The Jeep’s juvenile driver and another passenger were uninjured.
Highway 14A was closed for approximately three hours for emergency response and investigation.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation, and released information is preliminary.
