Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Versailles Claims Life of South Decatur Elementary Assistant Principal

Versailles, IN — A motorcycle crash on US 50 claimed the life of Jacob Rader, 41, on June 5, 2026, around 7:40 p.m.

Authorities reported that a blue 2019 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 24-year-old Hailley Eden, was stopped at a stop sign on S High St before turning east onto US 50. As Eden executed the turn, Rader’s red 2001 Honda motorcycle, traveling west on US 50, collided with the Suburban.

Rader sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County EMS. The Indiana State Police are assisting with the investigation through a crash reconstructionist.

No drugs or alcohol are suspected to be involved, and toxicology results are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.

Responding agencies included the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Versailles Police Department, Ripley County Coroner’s Office, Ripley County EMS, Versailles Fire Department, and Ripley County Communications.

Rader was the assistant principal at South Decatur Elementary. Nicole Stone, principal, stated, “Jake was a man of faith… He stepped in and up when we needed him.”

Services for Rader will take place at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Waldron. Viewing is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on June 11, with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on June 12. Burial will follow at Ben Davis Cemetery.
