Date Posted: Friday, November 7th, 2025

LEWES, DE—A five-vehicle crash on Coastal Highway this afternoon resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on November 7, Delaware State Police responded to a collision involving a Ford Edge, Nissan Altima, BMW X2, BMW 135, and a Peterbilt dump truck. The preliminary investigation indicates the Peterbilt, traveling southbound, failed to slow down for traffic, striking the Ford and causing a chain reaction.

The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old woman from Bel Air, Maryland, was taken to a local hospital where she later died. A 64-year-old male passenger from Bel Air was pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released pending family notification.

Injuries were reported for the other drivers: a 57-year-old man from Millsboro (Nissan Altima), a 75-year-old woman from Milton (BMW X2), and a 27-year-old man from Wilmington (Peterbilt), all with non-life-threatening injuries. The 74-year-old driver of the BMW 135 from Lewes was unharmed.

Coastal Highway was closed for about five hours as the scene was investigated and cleared. The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
