DOVER, Del. – A 22-year-old motorcyclist died in an accident on Memorial Day at North DuPont Highway and Lepore Drive.
The incident occurred on May 25 at 8:02 p.m. According to the Dover Police Department, a Jeep Wrangler was stopped in the northbound left turn lane with a flashing red arrow when it crossed into the path of a Yamaha R1 motorcycle operated by Emmanuel Farmer of Smyrna. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Jeep.
Emergency responders transported Farmer to Bayhealth Kent Campus, where he was pronounced dead.
The southbound lanes of North DuPont Highway were closed for approximately three and a half hours as police investigated the scene. Authorities stated that while impairment is believed to be unlikely, it appears Farmer may have been operating his motorcycle at high speeds prior to the collision. No charges have been filed at this time.
