CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – One person died and another was injured in a motorcycle crash on the Hal Rogers Parkway near the Clay-Leslie County line on October 10.
According to State Police, the motorcycle, operated by Sam Minton, 43, of Manchester, lost control and struck a guardrail. Minton was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The passenger, Shelly Minton, 46, also of Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
(Update – 6:45 p.m.): Clay County 911 officials confirmed that the affected area of the parkway has reopened.
(Original report): Emergency services were dispatched to the crash site located between mile markers 32 and 33. Witnesses reported that traffic heading west was rerouted onto the Hyden Spur and Highway 421 toward Clay County.
Authorities initially indicated that the roadway would remain closed for a couple of hours as the investigation continued.
