Linden, NJ (October 24, 2025) – A 72-year-old man from Matawan was killed in a collision on the New Jersey Turnpike on October 23.
According to the New Jersey State Police, the crash happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. near milepost 97.1 in the southbound outer roadway. The victim was driving a Mercedes when his vehicle collided with a Freightliner semi-truck traveling in the same direction.
Investigators reported that the right side of the Mercedes struck the front of the Freightliner, which was not hauling a trailer. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but the driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Freightliner driver, a 22-year-old man from Passaic, reportedly sustained no injuries. Authorities closed several lanes for hours while investigating the incident, which remains ongoing.
