Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Airman Near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam
FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii — A 26-year-old airman was killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday, impacting traffic near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, Senior Airman Britton Lee Halbert, stationed with the 735th Air Mobility Squadron, lost control of his Harley-Davidson while riding southbound on Elliott Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. Witnesses reported he veered into the northbound lane, where he was struck by a truck.
The driver of the truck, a 29-year-old man, sustained no injuries, police said. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity or the truck’s make and model.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators suggested speed may have been a contributing factor. Testing for alcohol and drugs on Halbert is pending.
Halbert, a Texas native, was pronounced dead at the scene. He previously served with the 703rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The 515th Air Mobility Operations Wing expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and all those who cared for him.”
