Two people were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a Mercedes Benz near the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn on Sunday night.
The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. at Shore Parkway and East 7th Street in Sheepshead Bay. Both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed when they lost control and struck three parked cars, according to authorities. The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a seriously injured passenger.
The 28-year-old passenger of the Mercedes was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead. The 22-year-old motorcycle driver was also taken to the same hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
Emergency responders from the NYPD and EMS were on the scene. The identities of the victims have not been released, pending family notification.
Authorities continued to search for the driver of the Mercedes, who remained at large hours after the incident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and traffic delays were reported in the area due to lane closures.
