TIPPECANOE COUNTY, IN – A motorcycle and school bus collision left one motorcyclist dead on May 15, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Indiana State Police responded to the incident at the intersection of State Road 28 and County Road 400 East. A preliminary investigation indicates the Tippecanoe School Corporation bus was traveling southbound on County Road 400 East, stopped at the intersection, and then attempted a left turn onto eastbound State Road 28, where it collided with the westbound motorcycle.
Emergency responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim will be confirmed by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office following proper identification and family notification.
At the time of the crash, there were four students from Wainwright Middle School on the bus, but no other injuries were reported. For inquiries regarding the school bus or students, the Tippecanoe School Corporation should be contacted.
The scene was managed by Indiana State Police crash reconstructionists, assisted by the Lafayette Post, Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office, Randolph/Clarks Hill Fire Department, and Tippecanoe County EMS.
