ABILENE, TX – A motorcycle crash on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, resulted in a fatality and injuries at the intersection of South 9th and Barrow Street.
At approximately 2 p.m., a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle traveling northbound on Barrow Street collided with a westbound Nissan Murano, which had stopped at a stop sign and was turning onto Barrow Street. The motorcycle struck the Murano on the driver’s side, causing the rider to be ejected.
The 19-year-old male rider, identified as Taryn Daniel Collins from Merkel, TX, suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Judge Shawna Joiner. Authorities said the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Next of kin notification has been completed.
The female driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Abilene Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Lane closures were in effect during the emergency response and cleanup.
The investigation is ongoing.
