Ladson Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Crosstown Overpass.

CHARLESTON — A motorcycle accident on April 13 claimed the life of a 24-year-old man from Ladson near the 511 Meeting apartment complex.

Oakley Meador was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m. after losing control of his motorcycle on the Interstate 26 West ramp at Coming Street, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Witnesses reported that Meador, who was wearing a helmet, crashed into a concrete barrier and fell into the parking lot below, as stated by the Charleston Police Department.

The parking lot was closed to residents shortly after the incident, with reopening at 6:41 p.m. A section of the Septima P. Clark Parkway, also known as the Crosstown, was closed during the investigation.

Police have urged anyone with information about the crash to contact the traffic unit at 843-965-4084 or submit a tip anonymously at charleston-sc.gov/tips.

This incident marks another in a series of motorcycle accidents on the Crosstown, with previous incidents reported in October 2018, January 2018, May 2010, November 2009, and May 2007.
