LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – A motorcycle accident in Harrison County claimed the life of a Laurel Police Department employee on Saturday afternoon.
Benjamin McSwain, 32, died in the crash involving his motorcycle and another vehicle. The incident occurred around 2:41 p.m. on Highway 67.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, McSwain had been with the Laurel Police Department’s animal control unit for approximately two years.
“We are deeply saddened by his passing,” said Capt. Shannon Caraway. “We will do our best to honor him and his contributions.”
Colleagues described McSwain as kind-hearted and full of life. His patrol vehicle is now stationed outside the Laurel Police Department in his memory.
“He aspired to become a Laurel police officer,” said Chief Earl Reed. “He was a wonderful person who often attended my church.”
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further details have been released.
