Man Arrested Following September Motorcycle Crash That Left 19-Year-Old Severely Injured.

IDAHO FALLS — A 54-year-old man was charged with felony aggravated DUI following a severe motorcycle crash that occurred on September 12 at 10:55 p.m.

According to the Idaho Falls Police Department, the incident took place at Washington Parkway and East Sunnyside Road. Two motorcycles were involved, resulting in life-threatening injuries for both riders.

Upon arrival, officers observed both riders being transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. One motorcycle, described as red and black, was found significantly damaged after veering off the road and colliding with two trees. The debris was scattered, with parts located up to 100 feet from the crash site.

Witnesses reported that the motorcycle was speeding over 80 mph in a 40 mph zone before it rear-ended another motorcycle, causing both riders to lose control.

The rider of the second motorcycle, a 19-year-old, suffered multiple fractures and required surgery. He reported traveling at approximately 40 mph before being struck.

Authorities identified the operator of the red and black motorcycle as Leland Eaton, who later admitted to rear-ending the other bike. He sustained severe injuries, including a ruptured spleen and possible spinal damage.

Eaton consented to a blood draw, revealing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.064 and traces of THC and fentanyl. He had a history of speeding offenses.

Eaton was arrested on December 4 and is currently free on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 26. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
