JONES COUNTY, TX — A 22-year-old motorcyclist from Maryland died Monday evening in a crash on State Highway 6.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. south of Farm-to-Market Road 704. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mason Alkire of Barton, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guemsey.
Authorities reported that Alkire was riding a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle northbound when he collided with the rear of a 2022 Ford 350 truck towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer. The truck was driven by 42-year-old Jeremy Harris of Stamford, Texas, who was wearing a seatbelt and reported no injuries. No other injury was noted from the two-vehicle accident.
Conditions at the time were clear with dry roads; the posted speed limit was 75 mph. Alkire was wearing a helmet. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
