LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A fatal motorcycle crash in LaPorte County has claimed the life of a 69-year-old man.
Authorities responded to the incident at State Road 39 and C.R. 950 South around 6:30 p.m. on [insert date].
Eddie Smith, a resident of North Judson, was ejected from his motorcycle during the incident and later died at the hospital.
Investigators reported that Smith was riding southbound on State Road 39 when the motorcycle veered left, crossing into the northbound lane and leaving the roadway on the east side.
Preliminary findings indicate that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
Emergency responders included local deputies and medical personnel. No other vehicles were involved, and there were no reports of additional injuries.
The roadway was temporarily closed for investigation and cleanup. The incident remains under investigation by the LAPORTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE.
