CYCLONE, W.Va. (WDTV) – A miner was killed in an accident at the Lower War Eagle mine on December 22, 2025.
Robert White, 63, was identified as the victim who died after being crushed by a tractor, according to a preliminary report by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
White had over 10 years at Lower War Eagle and more than 40 years of total mining experience. The mine, located in Wyoming County, is owned by Coronado Coal.
The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training is investigating the incident.
Governor Morrisey expressed condolences, stating that he and his wife were “deeply saddened” by the loss and offered prayers for the miner’s family and community.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details have not been released.
