Mother provides update on teenager critically injured in accident.

A 17-year-old remains in critical condition following a motorcycle crash on Saturday night along North Broadway near Hoover Elementary School. Hayden Baker is hospitalized at Nebraska Medical Center, and family members report that doctors do not expect him to survive.

According to authorities, Baker was rear-ended by a truck while riding his motorcycle. The truck driver fled the scene but was later apprehended.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident. Lane closures were in place while the scene was processed, but details regarding any vehicles towed were not immediately available.

Baker’s mother, Karla Baker, stated he was en route to pick up a helmet for her when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported seeing the chaotic scene as she ran to it, realizing her son was involved.

Baker is a student at Lewis Central High School and is also enrolled in Iowa Western Community College, planning to graduate with a welding degree in May.

In a show of support, a family member has organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses. Lewis Central School District’s Superintendent, Brent Hoesing, expressed condolences, stating that resources are being provided to students and staff affected by the incident.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
